In 2 days I will be participating in the 2026 North Texas RPG Con, in Irving, Texas. This has become a great con. It focusses, officially, on “oldschool” games. You’ll find a lot of OD&D, AD&D1e, and other games. About 8 years ago (?) I ran a GURPS Cyberpunk game there, and played in a Traveller game.

This year I am playing in Traveller games on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The game on Saturday is being run by my friend Greg Caires, who is doing this thing called Perpetual Traveller. You can find it on their Facebook page.

It is simply a framework for taking Traveller characters from one game to another - at cons or online - and gaining Improvement Points to improve the character.

Greg is running his game in Mongoose Traveller 2e, so I rolled up my first 2e character the other day. I have to see the process was pretty easy, and the I like the system. It’s good. I still prefer Classic Traveller, but hell, 2e is good too. I need to make myself a little cheat sheet of some of the combat rules and other stuff for the game!
