More on vehicle combat

I was just reading and participating in a thread over on the Citizens of the Imperium message boards on which people were discussing how they handle vehicle combat in Classic Traveller, which of course lacks such a system.

Mike Wightman said….

I just give them hits to disable and hits to destroy based on the hits you grant to animals of the same mass. Armour is mesh, cloth or battledress for typical unarmoured to lightly armoured. Heavy armoured vehicles such as tanks are immune to PC scale weapons,

I really like this. It is simple. You might even do something like…

Sure, you might want to know what part of it is disabled, but the ref can always just make up a roll on the spot for that, or just decide. If they want to target a particular spot, give ‘em a -2. Whatever. Really, will the game play any worse if such a simple system is used? Probably not. It might run better.
